Wingmen the stars in cup defeat

Apart from going out of the competition in which we grabbed all the headlines a year ago we also lost Martin Paterson to a long term injury, but there was much to enjoy in the wing play of Chris Eagles on the right and his partner Fernando Guerrero.

Neither have started a Premier League game for the Clarets but both were in sparkling form with Guerrero creating our second goal for Eagles with a brilliant piece of play. Such was their form that the two of them dominated the man of the match vote and the player ratings with Guerrero winning both.

Guerrero was the winner of both and he polled 57.6% of the vote making him the clear winner over Eagles who was second. His share of the vote was 23.2% whilst 6.9% of the vote was enough to give Steven Fletcher, scorer of our first goal, third place.

The player ratings gave the same result, and in the same order. Guerrero won it with a rating of 7.87 out of 10, Eagles was just behind with a rating of 7.60 whilst Fletcher again took third place with a rating of 7.27 out of 10.

For Guerrero and Eagles they are first points of the season towards the Clarets Mad Player of the Year. Guerrero gets the maximum six and there are four for Eagles. Fletcher wins two points and that takes him into fifth place.

Voting continues for the Spurs game, the man of the match vote is on the front page of the site and ends at midnight tonight.
