Will he ever stop scoring goals?

Paul Dickov scores from the spot in Leicester's 1-0 win against Wolves
Until David Johnson arrived at the Turf last March he had been unable to score goals for Forest with just 5 goals in 41 appearances. His goalscoring run for the Clarets would have seen him in a Claret and Blue shirt this season had finances allowed it but he has returned to the City Ground and cannot stop scoring.

He was at it again yesterday and scored twice more as they climbed three places to fourth with a 3-2 win against Rotherham. That gives him 11 league goals this season from 11 games and we all know the benefits of having a recognised goalscorer in the team.

Despite the scoreline Rotherham remain in the top six as do Sheffield United who went down at home to cash strapped Watford. The top three teams continued their good starts and all three won. Top two Portsmouth and Leicester were both at home and beat Bradford and Wolves respectively whilst Norwich secured a 2-1 win at Preston. It was a third away win of the season for Norwich against a Preston side that have picked up just one win in six home games.

Our win has seen us end the weekend in 18th place, our highest position of the season and the win also ensured we climbed above Franchise who are beginning to slip towards the bottom three.

Millwall picked up the result of the day with a 3-2 win at Coventry and with Grimsby winning the battle of the bottom at Brighton it leaves just Sheffield Wednesday without an away win, they went down at Walsall.

How much time does Martin Hinshelwood have left at Brighton after a ninth successive league defeat? It also saw them go bottom with Grimsby, 2-1 winners, moving into 23rd place. Bobby Zamora was back, and scored, but having been put on the spot by chairman Dick Knight three games ago the manager’s days look numbered.

However with less money around managers are going to keep their jobs longer, clubs will no longer be able to sack them quite so easily with no money to pay them up.

The Brighton game attracted the smallest crowd of the day with just 6,547 at the Withdean whilst Leicester recorded the biggest attendance of 32,082 for the visit of Wolves.

Today’s game saw Nik Michopoulos make his debut for Crystal Palace after joining them on loan. Palace had signed two keepers with Clarke and Kolinko both injured. Nik got the nod ahead of Bayern Munich’s Sven Scheuer.

In a game that saw Gills’ keeper Jason Brown substituted after just 15 minutes Nik had little to do and made just one save although he did concede twice in a game that ended 2-2. The point enabled Palace to climb back above the Clarets. His departure left us once again with just one keeper, such is the financial position at the Turf just now.

It’s Worthington Cup week this week and so there are no league fixtures midweek with the next First Division games next Saturday.

Apart from Johnson’s goals in Division One there were two goals scored in Division Two by ex-Clarets. David Eyres grabbed his second of the season for Oldham in their 4-0 home win against Huddersfield whilst another Oldham player David Reeves, currently on loan at his old club Chesterfield, scored the only goal of their game against Blackpool.

Back in the First Division though and Johnson has now pulled three goals clear at the top of the list as shown below.
