Where will Ronnie Moore be next week?

Ronnie Moore says a premature goodbye to the Rotherham fans
Rotherham drew 1-1 with Gillingham at Millmoor and manager Ronnie Moore appeared to be saying farewell to the crowd at the end of the game. Rotherham issued a statement announcing that Ipswich had sought permission to speak to Moore following the sacking of George Burley. In the statement Rotherham said they did not welcome the approach and had refused permission.

Ronnie was more than disappointed and set himself up for a departure by saying he wanted the opportunity. However Ipswich Chairman David Sheepshanks says there has been no such approach, he has not spoken to the Rotherham Chairman and doesn’t even know his name. This leaves Moore in a difficult situation but for now it looks as though his future remains at Rotherham.

On the field, and apart from Rotherham’s draw, Ipswich won their first game under caretaker manager Tony Mowbray although they were somewhat fortunate against struggling Sheffield Wednesday. They won 2-1 but a perfectly good Wednesday equaliser was ruled out by a bad offside decision.

It was a much needed result for the Suffolk club after suffering a 3-0 midweek defeat at Grimsby, a result that was to finally cost George Burley his job, but the defeat for the Sheffield club leaves their manager Terry Yorath on a knife edge with many predicting that this could have been his last game in charge.

For the second time this season a team ended a game at the No Pulse Bradford & Bingley Valley Parade Stadium with just nine players. This time it was visitors Derby but they both look harsh and the first is just a ridiculous decision by Neale Barry. When Murray goes it is incredible that Bradford’s Stephen Warnock is allowed to stay on the pitch after assaulting the Derby player. And then Nicky Law praises his players for keeping their discipline.

Pablo Counago puts Ipswich 1-0 up against Sheffield Wednesday
The game ended 0-0 but that almost seemed irrelevant after Barry had finished with his cards.

There was another win for Watford to take them into fourth place. They beat Grimsby 2-0 and again Manchester United’s Danny Webber was the star for Watford. And in London Millwall scraped a 1-1 draw with Franchise with Stuart Nethercott scoring both goals.

And finally another win for the Clarets that take us to ninth as we climbed above Reading, Derby and Bradford.

It’s off to Leicester for us next week and the week’s fixtures are (3:00 p.m. unless otherwise shown):
