What a let down

Word reached Clarets Mad that following discussions with Paul Gascoigne the Burnley supporting chairman at Bootham Crescent was about to make him the biggest signing in the club's history.

We even got a mention, no beyond that a link, on the Official York City web site (and here is the return link) for our wild suggestions. Talks had been held but clearly this was not Batchelor's priority.

So who could it be?

It is, and wait for it, Luther Blissett who lost his job as reserve team coach at Watford just over a year ago. He has been taken on by York to concentrate on coaching their attack. He has been out of the game since but met up with Batchelor through his interest in the British Touring Car Championship. Excuse me if I don't get too excited.

Blissett, who amazingly had fourteen England caps, was signed in a massive deal by AC Milan who thought they were getting John Barnes. He was less than successful in Italy and was soon back home at Watford.

His claim to fame now is the fact that the Fans of the Week on Sky television's Saturday morning programme Soccer AM sit in the Luther Blissett Stand.

Next time Batchelor is ready to make a major announcement don't hold your breath.
