Ade Akinbiyi and Wayne Thomas have also taken the same route to Turf Moor and as well as those two Noel-Williams will find more familiar faces in midfielder James O’Connor and assistant boss Dave Kevan.

The latest Claret has signed a two year contract, and becomes the fourth summer signing after the captures of Wade Elliott and Garreth O’Connor from Bournemouth and Thomas, and that takes the squad up to thirteen players.

Noel-Williams, now 25, came to prominence at Watford as a 16 year-old when Graham Taylor gave him his first team league debut in September 1996. He played the first half at Shrewsbury before being replaced by David Connolly.

He was released by the Hornets two summers ago after just short of 200 appearances for them which brought him 23 goals. He moved to Stoke and has been a virtual ever present, partnering Ade Akinbiyi for much of the time. He ended last season with thirteen league goals and was Stoke’s leading scorer.

He’s decided it is time to move on though, and like Akinbiyi and Thomas before him has chosen to move to Turf Moor where he will be looking to resume his partnership with Ade.
