Clarets' gaffer Sean Dyche is reportedly keen to add relegated Aston Villa's midfielder Ashley Westwood to his Barclays Premier League squad.

The SKY Bet Championship title winners are understandably keen to strengthen their squad ahead of their return to the top flight of English football.

Westwood recently scored twice against Southampton in a 4-2 Villa reverse at St. Marys. The two goals were his first since May 2014 but the 26-year-old is rumoured to be unhappy at the prospect of playing Championship football next season.

Clarets manager Sean Dyche is hoping to add further Premier League experience to his squad. "Quality over quantity" is the signing mantra already pledged by Clarets' Chairman Mike Garlick.

Westwood certainly has the experience and quality to continue to ply his trade in the Barclays Premier League. Former Villa team mate Matthew Lowton's success at Turf Moor since his arrival last summer, may well inspire Westwood to head north up the M6 to rejoin his former colleague.

Burnley managed to achieve promotion back to the top flight at the first attempt, having been relegated last term. Westwood certainly ticks all the right boxes as far as manager Sean Dyche is concerned.

Westwood is a product of the Crewe Alexander Youth Academy and made his full league debut aged just 18.

Ashley was described by former Villa boss Paul Lambert as an "elegant lad of great potential" and was regaled by Tim Sherwood as "one of my favourite players."
