West in demand

His Turf Moor contract is at an end and along with David May, Mark McGregor, and Paul Weller has been advised by new manager Steve Cotterill to consider any other offers with no guarantee that there will be a future at Burnley.

‘Fred’ has constantly been linked with a return to Lincoln and it is believed that he wants to settle in that area at the end of his playing career, a career that started with the Imps.

He made his debut for them as a teenager and made 119 league appearances for the Sincil Bank club scoring 20 goals – he played further forward then.

He moved to Bury in September 1995 just three weeks after Stan Ternent had taken over from Mike Walsh as manager before again signing for Stan five years ago at Burnley.

Lincoln are not the only club chasing him and he is more than interesting Sheffield Wednesday where Chris Turner is rebuilding his squad in no uncertain terms. Already eight new players have signed in at Hillsborough since the end of last season with a promise of more to come.

The 31-year-old West has said he is keen to stay at Burnley but should that not be the case there is more than enough interest to suggest he will still be playing in the Football League come August.
