We're off to West Ham again

Neil Shipperley - scored the goal that took Palace back to the Premiership
West Ham were considered to be the favourites but Palace, who had outplayed Sunderland in the semi-final were again much the better side and could have won it more convincingly and when they needed some good fortune they got it when Graham Poll missed a clear penalty in the closing stages.

Dowie’s record at Palace has been nothing short of remarkable. They were 19th when he took the job three days before Christmas and he got off to a bad start with a 1-0 home defeat against Millwall on Boxing Day.

But there have been just four more defeats since and they moved into the top six just at the right time, the last week of the season. Ironically they secured their place in the play offs when West Ham scored a late equaliser at Wigan on the last day of the season.

So it means no journey to Selhurst Park next season which has to be a bonus for those Burnley fans who travel by coach and instead we get another opportunity to go to West Ham where the side could look very different next season. They will certainly have to make further cuts and it would be a surprise to see the likes of Michael Carrick and Matthew Etherington in West Ham shirts next season.

We just await the last place to be filled in the First Division for next season and that will go to either Brighton or Bristol City – do we really want to have to suffer the delights of the Withdean again?
