Wembley hero replaces Wembley hero

Wade Elliott started the game and was making his 10th appearance for the Bristol club. Just a few minutes earlier he'd ben involved in the incident which saw Swindon's Alex Pritchard sent off, for which he was harshly yellow carded by referee Trevor Kettle.

But with the scores level and City looking to try and win it they replaced our Wembley goalscorer with Martin Paterson, one of the players who had scored in the semi-finals to land us that place at the national stadium.

Paterson signed on a loan deal until the end of the season just in time to be included in the squad yesterday. Cotterill said: "We've had to wait a bit for Martin to see what the situation is for him.

"They've signed Nahki Wells and James Vaughan is coming back to full fitness, so this opportunity has arisen and we're very grateful to Huddersfield.

"Martin's a very hard working striker who will offer us another option in attack and we're delighted to have him."

Just a few months he looked to be on his way out of Huddersfield after a training ground problem, but he won his place back in the side, got a few goals, the last of which, in the league, came against the Clarets at Turf Moor on New Year's Day.

He started the next game for Huddersfield but has been restricted to substitute appearances since and, after allowing his move yesterday, manager Mark Robins said: "Martin is a senior player and understandably wants to play regular first team football.

"Although he has been involved throughout, he hasn't featured as a starting player and that is what he wants to be, which I understand. This loan should give him the opportunity to do so.

"We're comfortable in allowing Martin to leave on loan as we have other options in the striking area at this time, which will soon be supplemented by other players becoming available. We also have young players pushing for their opportunity at the club, which as another option available to me and something I will look at.

"We will monitor Martin's performances for Bristol City closely during his spell at Ashton Gate, as we do with all our players when they spend time away."

Yesterday was Pato's first ever game in League One. He's previously played all his football in the top two divisions other than when he spent time on loan at Grimsby during the 2006/07 season and made 15 League Two appearances, scoring six goals.
