Wembley Claret is guest

It might not be the best of weeks for striker Steve Taylor. He did well in his first spell with the Clarets, a three year period from 1980 to 1983, but it was 25 years ago this week since he missed the penalty in the FA Cup 6th round tie against Sheffield Wednesday after which the fans turned on him somewhat.

Brian Miller had signed him from Mansfield for £35,000 and it was Brian who brought him back to Turf Moor in the aftermath of the Orient game in 1987. But Steve was not the same player during a further two years with us. He netted just six goals in his first season and in his second, and last with Burnley, failed to make a single start in the side. This was after his first time with the club had yielded just about a goal every two games.

He'd started his professional career with Bolton and between his two spells with the Clarets won the golden boot following a prolific season at Rochdale. He returned to Rochdale after leaving the Clarets for the second time and it was there he ended his playing career.
