Wembley captain is a very special guest

Steven Caldwell
Steven Caldwell was the winning captain back in May 2009 and he's now back playing alongside his brother Gary in the Premier League with Wigan. He left Turf Moor at the end of last season and told Burnley fans on his departure that his time with us had been the best of his career.

Unfortunately, his last season at Burnley didn't go as he might have hoped and yet everything looked perfect when he got a Scotland recall just before the big kick off. An injury on his international return kept him out of our first six Premier League games and a recurrence ruled him out of virtually the second half of the season.

He was one of the players released by Brian Laws at the end of that season after three and a half years with the club and 119 appearances. He was captain for most of those games. He hadn't been with us long when Steve Cotterill spotted his leadership qualities and gave him the captaincy and it was something he retained until the day he left Turf Moor.

Having been substituted in the game at Wolves in December of 2009 he finally returned to start the last two games of last season and it was a fitting end for him that we beat Spurs in his last ever game for the club.

Steven Caldwell proved to be a very astute signing for Burnley Football Club. He followed John Pender in captaining a winning Burnley team at Wembley and helped give most of us one of our best ever days watching the Clarets.

Give him the most fantastic reception this afternoon - he deserves it.
