Weller at Dale

Weller, released by the Clarets at the end of last season, was not involved on Saturday despite having been with York, Luton and Chester during pre-season. But this morning he has trained with Rochdale for the first time with manager Steve Parkin keen to add him to the squad.

Parkin said, “Paul is here with a view to joining the club and we will have to see what the financial situation is like. The injury to Gary Jones means it is imperative we bring in another midfield player”.

Weller made 254 league appearances for the Clarets but in the last couple of seasons he was constantly interrupted by a series of injuries although he still featured in most of the games.

It was a surprise to some that he was released and of course we are still awaiting his testimonial, which was granted a year ago.

Hopefully he’ll do well enough at Rochdale and will earn himself a contract at Spotland.
