We'll be off to Luton again

For some time we have known which two clubs would be promoted from League One and tonight the first of them have had that promotion confirmed. Brentford won 1-0 at Tranmere.

The win, courtesy of a goal from defender Michael Turner his first for the club, has lifted Brentford into the play off positions but the defeat for Tranmere has confirmed that Luton will finish in the top two and will be in the Championship in 2005/06 season.

It will mean our first games against them since our promotion season of 1999/2000 when they did the double over us. The first match was at Kenilworth Road when the hardly heard of since Neil Midgley scored both their goals in a 2-1 win, he’s now plying his trade with Canvey Island. It was Andy Cooke got the Burnley goal.

The home match should never have been played, the pitch was under water but incredibly referee Paul Danson allowed it to go ahead. Alan White and Phil Gray got the goals that night and just a few months later Gray was scoring a debut goal for the Clarets.

We’ve lost the last four games against them and our last win over Luton came at Kenilworth Road in November 1997 when we came from behind to win 3-2, it even included a goal from Michael Williams.

It is only a matter of time before Hull are confirmed as the other automatic promotion winners, they currently trail Luton by just three points.
