It sort of almost passed by unnoticed that Charlton were bought out at the beginning of the year by Belgian Roland Duchatelet, the current owner of Belgian club Standard Liege. He bought them three years ago and in the same year his son Roderick bought Hungarian outfit Ujpest.
Just before he purchased Charlton, Roland acquired German club Carl Zeiss Jena and has since bought AD Alcorcon, a Spanish second tier team. He's also previously owned Belgian team St Truiden and still owns their stadium.
Five of Charlton's six January signings arrived from Standard Liege. Had I been a Charlton fan at the time I'd have been seriously concerned at where the club was heading. It was beginning to look like another Watford to me.
Didier Saint-Viteux, a Standard Liege fan said of it all: "I think for now we are still the priority of Roland Duchatelet, but that could change if Charlton get into the Premier League." I don't think Didier need have too many worries but there must be some real concerns amongst those who watch their football at The Valley.
Tonight, on this season's first episode of Late Kick Off in the South East, Duchatelet will tell Charlton fans: "We (Charlton) will be a very realistic club in terms of what we spend. The aim is very quickly to break even, so the fans should expect us to sell players once in a while."
They sold both Dale Stephens and Yann Kermogant (a hat trick scorer for Bournemouth on Saturday) in January but what about this from the new owner.
He's also going to tell them: "The objective is to share the players. When a player not good enough for the first team (at Standard Liege) needs some experience he can go to Charlton. When we have a big talent at Charlton he can come also to Standard Liege."
As I said, Didier need have no worries. Charlton appear to have been bought for the sole purpose of being a feeder club for Standard Liege and nothing more, although it does appear that it would be beneficial if they could get into the Premier League to enable the new owners to get their hands on the money to help fund their number one club.
Charlton's chairman Richard Murray thinks the clubs can run independently and said: "What this gives us is a European scouting network that we could never afford as a Championship club."
Charlton are still in the relegation positions along with both Yeovil, who climbed off the bottom on Saturday, and Barnsley both having one point less. They are just one point from safety with Millwall the closest to them.
Before looking at the top of the league there has to be a word on Yeovil who, somehow, managed to get themselves a point at Reading on Saturday despite scoring an own goal and having three players sent off.
I was waiting for the rant from manager Gary Johnson over ending the game with eight players but he admitted he couldn't disagree with any of the three decisions made by referee Scott Mathieson. Having said that Yeovil have now appealed the first of them.
Up at the top of the league, Leicester have now established a massive 13 point lead over Derby in third place. It's hard to think that they'll drop enough points now and I can't see them missing out on automatic promotion no matter what happens between now and the remainder of the season.
Leicester have been on a staggering run since we picked up a point at the King Power. Since that day they've collected 35 points from 11 wins and a couple of draws. They haven't been beaten since a 3-1 defeat at Brighton on 7th December, a game that saw a certain Ashley Barnes score a brace.
Our lead over third is much more modest. We now sit five points ahead of Derby, nine in front of QPR, who have a game in hand, and we are now eleven points ahead of fifth place Forest. Our lead over seventh, a key all season, is now 15 points.
The battle for the play offs is very much warming up. Reading dropped out this weekend, replaced by Wigan, big 4-1 winners at Forest. Little Billy Davies thought it was a good result for Forest who were down to their last 40 players, or something like that, because of their crippling injury list.
Brighton, Ipswich and Blackburn are hovering below and all will be hoping to grab that sixth place by the end of the season.
I couldn't help but look at last season's league table after our 33rd game; the 1-0 defeat at Brighton. Cardiff led the way at the time; they had 67 points but had only played 32 games. Watford and Hull (both with 62 points) and Crystal Palace (58) were next with all having played one game more than us with Leicester and Brighton holding the other play-off positions.
They ended the season in the top six, although Hull went straight up with Cardiff, and the three at the bottom remained the three at the bottom with Wolves, Bristol City and Peterborough all going down.
I could produce the remaining fixtures for the clubs up at the top, but I'm not going to. Sean Dyche says we are taking it no more than one game at a time so that's what I'll do.
The next games for all the club can be seen below last Saturday's results and stats, the leading goalscorers, each club's red and yellow card count and the highest and lowest attendances.
