Welcome to Mackem Brassy

A lot has happened to Brassy since he last played for Burnley five years ago when he came on as a half time substitute for Andy Cooke in a 3-0 home defeat against Preston in March during the promotion season.

It was another year before he left and having had a loan spell at Halifax he then joined Terry Dolan’s York City at a time when they were in the then 3rd Division.

In all he played 160 league and cup games for the Clarets scoring one goal. Ironically that solitary goal came against York in a 7-2 win during the Chris Waddle season, a big win in a match after York had been the better side for much of the first half.

When he joined the Minstermen in March 2001 he could hardly have expected his career to take the path it did. The club were in serious trouble financially and also in a fight to keep Bootham Crescent after Chairman Douglas Craig had sold it off to himself.

A supposed Burnley fan John Batchelor took the reigns and made it worse before the Supporters Trust gained control and appointed Brassy as player/manager at the age of 28.

Things didn’t go quite to plan and after a good start they found themselves relegated from the Football League and have so far struggled to make an impact in the Conference. Brassy gave way to Viv Busby although he continued as a player.

Thinks have taken a turn for both him and Busby since. Brassy is out for the season with a cruciate ligament injury whilst just this week Busby left the club along with number two Lee Nogan with Billy McEwen becoming the third manager this season.

A popular player at the Turf probably his best season was the 1996/97 season when Adrian Heath played him in the centre of defence.

There is no doubt that he can expect to receive a very warm welcome from the Turf Moor crowd tonight.
