Wednesday want Cotterill

Sheffield Wednesday's Chairman Dave Allen contacted Barry Kilby and asked for permission to speak to Steve regarding the manager's position at Hillsborough following the sacking of Paul Sturrock yesterday.

Kilby has responded to the South Yorkshire club and has this evening confirmed that he has turned down their official approach and that Burnley Football Club would be making no further comment at this stage.

That should be it, and almost certainly will be. Not for a minute do I think Steve would be interested in the job given that they have become a club in recent years who are only too keen to make a change of manager when the results are disappointing. Given their recent record, whoever takes over is likely to be looking for another job in a year or so.

Former Wednesday players Nigel Worthington, Gary Megson and Nigel Pearson already seem to have been set up as favourites in some quarters, and then there's always Chris Waddle.
