Wednesday back with us

It was a game that could have gone either way and after falling behind in the first half it looked very much as though Hartlepool might clinch it when they led 2-1 going into the last ten minutes of the game.

Their chances of playing at the higher level for the first time in their history took a knock when they conceded a penalty eight minutes from time which not only saw Wednesday draw level but left them with ten men.

That gave them an uphill task and it proved too much for them as the Hillsborough club scored twice in extra time to win it 4-2.

That will mean a big away following at the Turf and we all remember their last visit when, already relegated, they beat us 7-2 as Nik Michopoulos and Marlon Beresford turned goalkeeping into a circus act.

We have won though on each of our last two visits to Hillsborough, a ground that has been reasonably kind to us over the years.

That leaves just one place to be decided and that will come tomorrow when Preston take on West Ham with the winners going up into the Premiership.
