Webster yet again

Last updated : 10 August 2006 By Tony Scholes
It is the first time we won't have a Premiership referee but I don't think any Burnley fans who were at Leicester will complain after seeing Howard Webb have a particularly poor game. Webster though can be a somewhat worrying referee, particularly early in the season when he is usually over keen to make use of his new cards.

He was with us on the opening day of the season last year at Crewe, then later in the season took charge of our defeat at Sheffield United and then the home televised game against Norwich. In the last two of those three games he's not booked any Burnley players at all.

Last week he got his season off to a good start with his cards. He refereed the League One game between Rotherham and Brighton. Three players received yellow cards whilst Brighton's Dean Cox was sent off right on half time.

It was a second yellow and the first, just two minutes earlier, was for over celebrating Alex Revell's goal when the two of them were both booked.

At Hillsborough his assistants will be Philip Bramley (Yorkshire) and Russell Tiffin (Co Durham) and fourth official will be Ian Smedley (Derbyshire). Tiffin is an assistant who has caused us a few problems in the past, including some very strange decisions in that vital game at Bradford towards the end of the 2003/04 season.
