Webster is referee

It will be Webster’s sixth Burnley game in all with everyone of them having been a home game. His first was back in the 2000/01 season when he beat Barnsley 2-1. He waved seven yellow cards in that game and also sent off Barnsley’s Chris Morgan.

His last visit saw the red card come out again, Arthur Gnohere got his marching orders with a second yellow after an incident in the corner between the Bob Lord and Cricket Field Stands.

I described that performace at the time as a lottery performance in that you had more chance of selecting the six numbers than you had of working out just what he was going to do.

He allowed the game to get out of hand without taking any action for seventy minutes including one awful challenge that brought Paul Cook’s Burnley career to an end. But in the last fifteen minutes he went card crazy as he finally realised the game was out of hand.

He’s had just the one game this season in which he handed out two yellow cards and last season there were 122 yellow and 5 red cards in a total of 33 matches. Three of those five red cards came in one incident just before half time in the Carling Cup tie between Scunthorpe and Oldham.

His senior assistant tomorrow suggests he has been involved in some sort of scandal surrounding our former manager – he is Stan Gate from Tyne & Wear. The second assistant is Gary Stott from Greater Manchester.
