Webster is in charge

It is 34 year-old Colin Webster from Shotley Bridge in County Durham who is now in his second season on the Football League list. This though will be his third visit to the Turf.

He is another referee who hasn't been too shy with the red cards this season and has so far sent off six players in his 27 games. He has also issued 68 yellow cards and 28 of those have been given to home team players and 40 to away team players.

The six players to see his red card have been Gillingham's Roland Edge in a 1-0 defeat at West Brom, Gareth Phillips of Swansea in a 2-2 draw at Scunthorpe, Danny Shittu for QPR in a 3-2 defeat at Chesterfield, Nigel Jemson of Shrewsbury in a 1-1 draw at York, Bury goalkeeper Paddy Kenny in a 2-2 home draw with Cambridge and finally Matty Appleby of Oldham in their 7-1 hammering at home to Cardiff.

His previous visit to the Turf this season was the 3-3 draw against Crewe. Just one player each carded that night and Burnley's was Ian Moore.

In his two seasons so far his record number of cards in a game was at Burnley last season when he issued seven yellow cards and one red in our 2-1 home win against Barnsley. Ian Cox, Ian Moore and Lenny Johnrose were all booked as were four Barnsley players. Barnsley's Chris Morgan also picked up a straight red card for a professional foul. Goals for Lenny and Andy Payton won the game for the Clarets.

Hopefully Mr. Webster will referee with some common sense, something there was a complete lack of last Saturday.
