We don't want lightening to strike twice

Rotherham referee Howard Webb took charge of our 5th round tie at Millwall last season and to say he turned in a weak performance is an understatement.

He allowed the home side to bully us, he allowed Dennis Wise to run the game by fair means or foul, and then incredibly sent off Paul Weller for pushing Wise after the Millwall player manager had stamped on him.

Apart from that he failed to take any action against the racial abuse suffered by Mo Camara and made no effort to report it afterwards.

We haven’t seen him since although he has been in charge of two Blackburn matches this season, their 1-0 Premiership defeat at Aston Villa and their 3-0 win against Colchester in the last round of the FA Cup.

Webb is averaging three yellow cards per game this season with 70 in 24 games but as yet has not sent anyone off. The only time he has made use of his red card since he sent Weller off was in the First Division game last season between West Brom and Wigan when he dismissed Wigan goalkeeper John Filan.

Of those 70 yellow cards 31 have gone to home team players and 39 to away team players and although he hasn’t handed out any red cards this season he hasn’t had a game with no yellow cards.

Tonight will see Robbie Savage in the wind up role that Wise played so well last season, we need Webb to be a lot stronger and not to be influenced in the way he was so easily a year ago.

He will be assisted by G Atkins and T Massey whilst Sheffield referee Uriah Rennie will be on duty as the fourth official.
