We don't need to sell

In a disappointing Radio Lancashire Phone In this was the biggest news for Burnley fans who can now rest assured that the likes of Robbie Blake and Richard Chaplow will only be sold if an offer came in that was simply impossible to refuse.

Most of the callers were in agreement with the decision not to renew Stan Ternent’s contract with some congratulating Barry on making the tough decision. However, they couldn’t get from him any positive news on a replacement although he said we were getting some high quality candidates.

The target, he said, was still to have someone in place by the end of May or by the first week in June as the club looks to move forward.

He also tried to explain that neither he, nor his fellow directors, were able to make a footballing decision regarding the futures of David May, Mark McGregor, Paul Weller and Dean West and they would have to wait until the new manager was in place. He admitted it was a calculated risk but that is how it had to be.

Regarding Weller’s testimonial he said it was all down to the player himself after the club had granted him one a year ago and that was why nothing had happened whilst Stan had moved quickly to get his committee in place.

When asked why Stan wanted one having already been given a send off Barry Kilby said it was all about money.

There was also news of two new directors in Jon Wilkinson and John Sullivan, two local businessmen. The Chairman said it took the board up to eight but his maths are not all they should be and alongside himself, Ingleby, Blakeborough, Holt, Turkington, Duckworth and Hobbs that now takes it to the maximum of nine.

There was some good news from both Barry and Chief Executive Dave Edmundson regarding the youth set up at the club and they are both positive in their belief that it is the way forward.

Although it isn’t imminent I do believe that the two of them are looking towards academy status in the future which would be brilliant news for our club.

So we must wait a while yet for the new manager – maybe as long as three weeks. It will give more time for even more speculation.
