Gifton Noel-Williams - deadline day departure
Hopes were high amongst some supporters that there may be some new signings, permanent of loans, but it wasn't to be although I suspect manager Steve Cotterill might well have been making eleventh hour attempts to strengthen his squad.

Even so, it hasn't been a bad January for us in terms of the market, four new players in and two out is somewhat better than it has been in previous years when we've found our leading goalscorer sold. This time we can still wait for him coming back from injury.

So no Steve Caldwell, indications just past midnight are that he has opted to stay with RK Sunderland and see out his contract rather than take up offers with us or Coventry, or perhaps even Watford.

There's no Jermaine Easter either, yesterday there was wild and incredible speculation that we were signing the Cardiff born striker from Wycombe Wanderers for £1.5 million. It seemed to come from a radio station, I would suspect it must have caused them some amount of embarrassment when they discovered it wasn't happening.

Would we want him anyway, he's previously played for Stockport? We do have something of a track record signing strikers who have played at Edgeley Park – such as Tony Hancock, Ian Helliwell and Ian Moore.

The month has left us with a squad that is bigger by two players – now to get on with wining points again.
