Wayne Thomas leads Clarets past and present in the cup

Shock win for Wayne Thomas at Coventry

Thomas, who Burnley signed on a free transfer and sold to Southampton for £1.2 million, is now playing for Worcester City in the Conference North. They were given a tough away tie at Coventry but won it 2-1 with two goals from Sean Geddes.

It's led to Sky Blues boss Stephen Pressley, who was on the short list for the Burnley job two years ago, publicly blasting his players and, in Stan Ternent style, confirming that some of them are going to be shipped out.

Thomas wasn't the only winner, and we had both winners and losers in some ties. At Oakwell there was a substitute appearance for Keith Treacy in their 5-0 win against Burton for whom Alex MacDonald started and Dominic Knowles came on as a substitute.

Similarly, Paul Rachubka, who never featured in our first team during a loan from Charlton in 2004, and Joseph Mills were in the Oldham team that beat Leyton Orient 1-0 at Boundary Park, a Leyton Orient team that featured Marvin Bartley.

There was one on each side at the Abbey Stadium in Cambridge's 1-0 home win against Fleetwood. Luke Chadwick was used as a substitute by the home side with Fleetwood, managed by Graham Alexander, including Stephen Jordan in their starting line up.

Two former loan players faced up against each other in a goal fest at Vale Park. Richard Duffy was in the Port Vale side and Mark Randall played for MK Franchise in a 4-3 win for the visitors.

Switching to current Burnley players, we currently have three out on loan to clubs in Leagues One and Two but only one of them was given permission to play. Scunthorpe were unable to field Luke O'Neill and it was the same for York with goalkeeper Alex Cisak. Burnley refused requests from both clubs.

However, Tom Anderson made his FA Cup debut in Carlisle's game at Peterborough. It's Tom's last involvement with the competition this season; Carlisle were beaten 2-1.

Another FA Cup red card for Brian Stock

York drew 1-1 at Wimbledon. Keith Lowe was in the York side with Wes Fletcher, on his way back from injury, coming on as a substitute.

Also winners were Wade Elliott with Bristol City at Gillingham, John Oster whose Gateshead beat Norton United, whilst both Paul Cook and Mark Yates were winning managers with Chesterfield and Cheltenham against Braintree and Swindon.

The two remaining managers involved were Steve Davis and Micky Mellon. Their sides, Crewe and Shrewsbury, both drew against a Sheffield United team that included Jay McEveley and Walsall respectively.

Two more ex-Clarets facing replays are Shay McCartan, he was in the Accrington team that drew at Notts County, and George Porter whose Dagenham & Redbridge secured a replay against Southport. Brian Jensen, meanwhile, was an unused substitute as Crawley bowed out at Yeovil.

Thomas might have enjoyed the best day but the worst was surely for Brian Stock. The last time he played in the FA Cup he was sent off by referee Paul Tierney playing for the Clarets at Barnsley in January 2013.

He was twice yellow carded, the first one being a case of mistaken identity, but was suspended for one game.

His return to the competition brought a similar outcome. He was again yellow carded twice seeing him the first of two Havant and Waterlooville players sent off in Monday's 3-0 home defeat against Preston.

26 in total, playing or managing. There were 10 winners, 9 losers and 7 to fight another day with maybe one of them getting through to the third round and a date with their former club at Turf Moor.
