Ward is our 70th international

Last updated : 03 September 2014 By Tony Scholes

Ward, signed recently from Wolves, played for Ireland tonight in Dublin in a 2-0 friendly win against Oman with Crystal Palace's Kevin Doyle and Alex Pearce of Reading getting the goals.

He won his first cap just over three years ago and tonight is his first since lining up against Portugal in New Jersey, USA as part of Portugal's World Cup preparations.

Only Keith Treacy, with one substitute appearance against Croatia in August 2011, has represented the Republic of Ireland as a Burnley player before tonight.

Ward's name will now be set to go in the internationals board at Turf Moor, the 70th name to go on the board which starts with Jack Yates, our first ever international.

He's been moved to the first section of the Internationals feature on Clarets Mad that has seen two other updates this evening for Gary Cahill and George Boyd.

Cahill was in the England side that beat Norway at Wembley and Boyd is the newest name in the feature having twice played for Scotland, once in 2013 and more recently in 2014.
