Ward goes to Carlisle

It's well over ten years since Ward left Burnley. He'd been assistant to Adrian Heath and we looked set for the play offs at least until he left. Unfortunately the form went with him and a late season collapse left us well short of the play offs.

He'd arrived at the beginning of the 1996/97 season having just left as manager of Bristol Rovers but within a year he was back in Bristol as manager of City. From there he worked at Wolves where he was caretaker boss prior to the appointment of Dave Jones but in November 2003 he succeeded Bobby Gould as Cheltenham boss.

Other clubs have tried to take him but he's stayed at Whaddon Road and was under contract there until the end of the 2010/11 season. They have resisted the approaches of Carlisle but when Ward made it clear he wanted to go they agreed a compensation package with the Cumbrians.

He takes over tomorrow morning and has signed a four year contract with Carlisle. Having started his managerial career with York this will be the sixth team he has managed.
