Walton back at Derby

He was training with the Derby County squad and was named in the reserve team squad for their Bass Charity Vase match against West Brom being played at Rochester.

The East Midlands club had him watched at Turf Moor on Saturday and their Director of Football Murdo Mackay said they were still waiting to hear from the Clarets whether we were interested in signing Walton or not.

He started Saturday’s game alongside John McGreal in the centre of our defence and played the first 68 minutes before he was replaced by French trialist Lionel Djebi Zadi.

Steve Cotterill admitted yesterday that it is difficult looking at and assessing trialists and that you need to be careful before offering them contracts.

Walton ended on the losing side again last night – West Brom won the tie 1-0 with a goal from Stuart Nicholson.
