Wallace goal is first winner

Wallace doesn't score too many goals, but when he does they are often spectacular affairs with most of them coming from free kicks, and so it was with the goal at Leicester that earned us a point deep into stoppage time.

Scott Arfield won a free kick in the D and Wallace stepped up, claiming afterwards that home goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel had made it easier for him by taking up a position too far over to one side. He said all he needed to do was get it over the wall.

He did just that, before it found the net with Schmeichel helpless with just about every member of the Burnley team coming over to the corner to celebrate with the supporters. It was always likely to be the winner and it polled 52.6% of the vote.

Scott Arfield's goal in the first game of the season against Chelsea, the only time we'd been in the lead in a game until last Saturday's win against Hull, was second with a 37.9% share leaving less than 10% for the three remaining goals.

Danny Ings' goal against Everton, running onto a Lukas Jutkiewicz through ball and taking it round Tim Howard, received 6.3%, George Boyd's close range shot against West Ham was next with 2.1% with Michael Kightly receiving just 1.1% of the vote for his goal at Leicester, the one that ended the drought.

Hopefully we won't have to wait three months for the next vote; there is already one goal scored for that vote, by Ashley Barnes against Hull.

Wallace's goal will now be included in the goal of the season vote next May.
