Wade takes goal award

Last updated : 27 May 2007 By Tony Scholes
By some distance is something of an understatement. Paul McVeigh's finish to a fantastic team move in the Easter Monday home game against Cardiff was runner up and polled only 6.2% of the vote whilst Andy Gray's dramatic late winner against Preston came third with 3.9%.

You left us in no doubt who should win this award this year, and take the title from Ade Akinbiyi who won it last season for his second in that 'against the odds' 3-2 win at Luton. That goal won the poll last season with over 52% of the vote but Wade has done even better than that and collected no less than 73%. He's even polled considerably more than Micah Hyde did in 2004/05 and we know all about that goal.

Some will say Wade's wasn't even the goal of the game, because of Carlos Edwards' winner for the home side. For me it was just as good a finish, if not better, and his shot came far more unexpectedly and from a more difficult position. It really was a stunner, and for a few short minutes had us in front against the eventual champions. There's no doubt this goal deserved to be a match winner.

Again you've gone for a powerful strike to win the award which besides Ade has also been won by Dean West and Lee Roche after shots from distance, whilst Robbie won it for his fantastic free kick against Gillingham three years ago. The winners of our awards are shown below:
