Sam's goal was well deserved. He'd played well again, alongside Danny Ings for the first 75 minutes and then partnering Ashley Barnes following the injury to leading goalscorer Ings.
It was another good performance from him and it won him both the man of the match and the player ratings to take him further ahead at the top of the Clarets Mad Player of the Year Table.
He won the man of the match with 23.6% of the vote with the two other goalscorers taking the next two places. Michael Duff, who netted for the first time in over 14 months, was second with 19.7% and Dean Marney, scoring a third in just a few weeks, took third place. He won 17.4% of the vote with left-back Ben Mee in fourth place with 10.1%.
A player rating of 7.73 out of 10 saw Vokes come out on top. Right-back Kieran Trippier was second with a rating of 7.45 and in joint third place were Duff and Tom Heaton who both had ratings of 7.00 out of 10.
This result gave Vokes ten points towards the player of the year. There were five points for Duff, three for Trippier, two each for Heaton and Marney and one point for Mee.
Vokes now has a lead of 24 points over Jason Shackell in the race to become the Clarets Mad Player of the Year. It is very much looking a two horse race just now and there would be no complaints for either to get more points in the remaining ten games. It would mean some clean sheets if Shackell is winning and more goals coming the way of Vokes if he's collecting the points.
