Unsworth no to Burnley deal

David Unsworth
Unsworth, who signed for Burnley in August of last year, was out of contract but manager Owen Coyle offered him a new one year deal that would be predominantly a coaching role and it was looking very likely that he would not be considered for first team action other than in exceptional circumstances.

Coyle also admitted that Unsie would have to make a big financial sacrifice to sign the deal which was worth considerably less to him than his current playing deal at Turf Moor.

Much was dependent on what Unsworth wanted to do. He has said he would like to end his playing career at Burnley and has also expressed a desire to move into coaching. He's already got his UEFA 'B' licence and is currently doing his 'A' licence which has led to him taking a place on the touchline in reserve team games.

But he also feels he's got another couple of years in him as a player and it looks as though that has held sway with the news breaking on television that he's turned us down.

One national newspaper has also reported that Andrew Cole has said no to a one year pay as you play deal but again, as in the case of Unsworth, there's nothing from the club.

Coyle also offered new deals to James O'Connor and Jay Rodriguez but as yet neither of them has committed themselves to the Clarets.
