United defender Keane signs for Clarets

It looked as though the window was closing with no late action from Turf Moor but with just minutes to go ahead of the 11 p.m. deadline there was speculation of a third deal of the day to bring in Keane. We applied for an extension until 1 a.m. that did allow us to get the deal completed.

The 21-year-old Keane has, along with twin brother Will, has come through the youth ranks at Manchester United and signed his first professional deal with them on his 18th birthday in 2011 although he has only recently made his Premier League debut, coming on as a substitute for Chris Smalling in the draw at Sunderland a week last Sunday.

He has, however, played several games at Championship level over the last two seasons. In 2012/13 he had a lengthy spell on loan at Leicester where he made 22 league appearances, and he added to that last season with seven games for Derby before ending the season at Blackburn.

He played 13 times for our local rivals, the first of which was the East Lancs derby back in March which the Clarets won 2-1, but he had a successful period there which ended with a long unbeaten run to the season getting them close to the play-offs.

Keane is Stockport born but with Irish family and he made his international bow at under-17 level with the Republic of Ireland. He then opted to play for England and has done so at both under-19 and under-21 level.

He's in the England under-21  squad right now for games against Lithuania and Moldova along with new Burnley team mates Danny Ings and Nathaniel Chalobah.

His signing completes a successful transfer deadline day for the Clarets as he joins George Boyd and Chalobah at Turf Moor.
