Two more managerial changes

Niall Quinn - chairman and manager at Sunderland
Niall Quinn had set his sights high to bring in a permanent replacement for Mick McCarthy and it had become evident there was no chance of either caretaker Kevin Ball or Kevin Richardson getting the job.

Maybe he set his sights too high and it become almost farcical when they were linked with Sam Allardyce at Bolton. Despite all the promises of a big name boss I think most knew who would get the job and last Tuesday came the news we all expected when Quinn appointed himself.

He's gone back in time and brought in Peter Reid's former number two, and ex-Blackburn boss, Bobby Saxton who will be assistant manager whilst Richardson will take up the position of first team coach. It's been suggested that Quinn might just do the job in the short term but we'll just see how long it is before he steps down, and will he sack himself?

Two days ago Colchester completed the managerial merry-go-round by giving the job to Geraint Williams, who had been placed in temporary charge after Phil Parkinson moved on to Hull.

Despite the news of very good candidates putting their names forward it was become fairly obvious that they were going to promote from within and with just a week to go to the new season they formally gave the job to Williams who had been Parkinson's assistant.

All the Championship clubs have now got manager and an incredible eleven of them, just one short of half, will be under new management when the season kicks off in five days time.
