Two Marlons but no Weller for island trip

Paul Weller - out of the Isle of Man tournament
Included in the travelling squad are Dean West who is no longer under contract at Turf Moor along with Marlon Broomes and Marlon Beresford who are both training with the club. Because of the financial problems following the collapse of ITV Digital the club are not in a position to offer any of these players terms at the moment.

Beresford has been at Gawthorpe all week whereas Broomes has been there since the start of pre-season training. It is worth mentioning at this time that although we have chosen not to show a picture of Broomes in this article we will not insult Burnley supporters by picturing him at any time on this web site wearing the colours of his previous Lancashire club.

One notable absentee from the named squad is Paul Weller and yet the club choose not to offer any explanation for Paul’s absence. He will not be making the trip because he has had injury problems, we believe with the knee recently operated on, and has no chance of being fit. At this time it is hoped that he will be fit for the start of the season.

Sadly none of the new professionals have made the squad and another opportunity to give youth a chance has gone. Although the squad doesn’t carry quite so many older players now it would be nice to see a couple of youngsters included.

The full squad for the tournament is: Nik Michopoulos, Dean West, Steve Davis, Gordon Armstrong, Glen Little, Paul Cook, Gareth Taylor, Andy Payton, Tony Grant, Ian Cox, Graham Branch, Ian Moore, Lee Briscoe, Brad Maylett, Mark McGregor, Arthur Gnohere, Robbie Blake, Alan Moore, Dimitri Papadopoulos, Marlon Beresford and Marlon Broomes.
