Paul Smith - looking for a new club
Paul Smith has been at Hillsborough for just a year, following manager Turner from Hartlepool, but he never established himself in the Wednesday team and wasn’t accepted by the fans.

He started only twelve league games for them and hasn’t featured in the first team since the middle of February. He’s still under contract but the player who appeared to have resurrected his career successfully at Hartlepool will need to find himself another club if he wants to play first team football.

Also surplus to requirements is defender Craig Armstrong who has been with Sheffield Wednesday for just over two years having been signed by Terry Yorath.

It is almost ten years since Armstrong, now 29, was with the Clarets when Jimmy Mullen signed him on loan from Nottingham Forest as cover for the injured Chris Vinnicombe.

He and Smith both made their last appearances for the club on 14th February this year with Armstrong playing the first half and Smith the second half in a 1-0 home win against Hartlepool.

Armstrong moved to Grimsby on loan where he played nine games but like Smith is now at Wednesday, under contract and knowing that he will not be considered for the first team.

Both players have been told they will be allowed to move on if they find another club without Sheffield Wednesday requiring a fee.
