Two ex-Clarets in big game at Oldham

Tony Philliskirik - in the Millennium Allstars team
The game has come about because of the perilous position the 2nd Division club find themselves in and they have said that if not successful this could well be the very last match played at the ground.

Oldham’s Wembley Wizards include a player who made one substitute appearance for Burnley at Orient in the penultimate game of the 1985/86 season, Rick Holden. We failed to sign him the following season and he went on to have a successful career playing at the top level with Oldham and Manchester City.

One the other side is former striker Tony Philliskirk who joined the Clarets in 1994 from Peterborough United but suffered with injuries during his time at the Turf. Phyllis is now with Oldham on the coaching side after giving up on the idea of becoming a referee.

All the players, match officials, staff and even the fire service crew are all giving their services free of charge tomorrow, not one of them will even be claiming a penny in expenses.

The teams are:

Wembley Wizards: Andy Rhodes, Denis Irwin, Andy Barlow, Nick Henry, Paul Warhurst, Roger Palmer, Rick Holden, Frank Bunn, Andy Ritchie, Mike Milligan, Neil Adams, Gary Williams. Subs to be announced.

Millennium Allstars: Jon Hallworth, Neil Pointon, Mike Flynn, Paul Jones Snr., Paul Bernard, Tommy Wright, Neil Redfearn, Graeme Sharp, Iain Dowie, Tony Philliskirk plus a place allocated to an auction winner.

Referee: Chris Coleman.

Admission will be a minimum of £10 adults and £5 concessions but there will certainly be no objection from the Oldham supporters trust if you want to pay more.

Clarets Mad will be represented at the game and it goes without saying that we are hoping very much that the game will be a success and will allow Oldham Athletic to take some positive steps forward in this terrible time for them.

If you can get to the game tomorrow then please do and help out a fellow club in its hour of need. We have been in contact with Oldham and I can assure you that your support will be very much appreciated. Wear your Claret & Blue too and let them see that the Clarets are right behind them in their survival bid.
