Two Clarets reach milestones

Marlon - 250th league appearance for Burnley
In doing so he becomes only the 22nd post war Claret to reach this target and the first since Steve Davis. Incredibly 15 of those 22 played in either the 1959/60 Football League Championship side or the 1972/73 Second Division Championship side.

Since the players in that 2nd Division team only four players have reached the total and two of them Davis and Beresford have needed more than one spell at the club. The other two to reach the total have been Derek Scott with 285 appearances and Andy Farrell with 257.

The current Claret with the most appearances in his current spell at the club is Paul Weller who has now played in 178 league games for us.

Also reaching a milestone yesterday was Gareth Taylor who played his 50th league game for us and also scored his 19th goal. Taylor made his Burnley debut in February last year and scored his first Burnley goal at Watford in a 1-0 win, his fifth appearance.

Gareth Taylor - 50th Clarets league game
Taylor made the 250th league appearance of his career recently at Crewe and his goal yesterday was his 71st league goal in total. Only two current Burnley players can boast more goals than that, Andy Payton with 200 and Tony Ellis with 179.

His 15 league goals this season sees him sixth in the division with only Shaun Goater, Clinton Morrison, Dougie Freedman, Dean Sturridge and Peter Crouch having scored more.

That's a good return for a player who, according to people who sit behind me at home games, is a donkey. I just wonder what it is they want.
