Turf Moor Boardroom changes

It was a surprise when Kilby announced last week on Radio Lancashire that both Jon Wilkinson and John Sullivan were joining the board.

Sullivan is something of an unknown but he has built up a number of multi-million pound commercial, residential and investment businesses over the past forty years both locally and overseas.

He will be involved in the development of the non-playing side and to bring new ideas and money to the club.

He said, “I am keen to capitalise on the growing emphasis on community based regeneration and recognise the role that Burnley Football Club can have in the renaissance of Burnley and the surrounding areas.

“I have come to assist and advise the Board in anything they do and supplement the good work they are doing.

“The main thing is that we are in a better position than last year and hopefully we can build on it and get behind the Chairman and the Board and build on last season for bigger and better things.”

The Chairman added, “I’m pleased John has accepted our invitation to join the Board. It is another example of the new development and interest in the future of our club.”

Jon Wilkinson’s arrival on the board was less heralded. The head of Haydock Finance has been heavily involved on the financial side over the past few months and has been of great assistance.

It is believe he was the benefactor who paid for the controversial trip to Spain in March and he now becomes a fully fledged director of the club.

The Chairman said it takes the numbers to eight but in fact the new additions make ten. We are led to believe that this could mean a departure from the board of the longest serving director Bob Blakeborough, one of only two remaining from the Frank Teasdale board. The club have made no comment on it at this time.
