Trialists galore

Zoltan Kovacs - one of the five trialists currently with the Clarets

The game was arranged to give captain Steven Caldwell ninety minutes football and also featuring alongside him during the game were Brian Jensen, Stephen Jordan, John Spicer, Steve Jones and Ade Akinbiyi and the five players currently with us on trial.

Two of them remain a mystery whilst the three we know about have joined us from Ireland, Croatia and Hungary respectively.

Young Irish right back Seamus Coleman was the first to be named. Coleman is currently with Sligo Rovers who play their football in the Eircom League and have had a few Burnley connections in recent years having been managed by Steve Cotterill, Jimmy Mullen, Nicky Read, Tommy Cassidy and now, since April this year, Paul Cook.

The 19-year-old Coleman joined Sligo in August 2006 from St. Catherine's Killybegs after impressing against them in a friendly and has established himself in Paul Cook's team. He's with Burnley this week and took in the reserve game at Accrington last night.

Slovenian born Srebrenko Posavec can play either in midfield or up front, but is more at home on the left hand side of the midfield. Now 27 he has been capped once by Croatia in February 2006 during a tournament in Hong Kong. He is currently playing for NK Slaven Belupo in the Croatian league.

The third known player is Hungarian 6ft 4ins defender Zoltan Kovacs. Just past his 21st birthday this week he's hoping to win a deal in England from his current club despite the fact that he's just extended his contract with his current club Gyori ETO.

Kovacs is the current captain of the Hungarian Under-21 side and as is the case with the others he's been at Burnley all week but will return to Hungary tomorrow. His agent has confirmed that they should know by then whether Burnley are interested in making him an offer.
