Dave Walton when playing for Crewe
With former Blackburn defender Michael Taylor having left the club the new Burnley manager has decided to take a look at Dave Walton who is currently with Derby County.

The 31-year-old defender joined Derby on a Bosman only last summer from Crewe but a cartilage injury followed by the form of Michael Johnson restricted him to just five league appearances for the Rams.

He played more games last season for the Unprofessionals when he made a loan move to Edgeley Park and played seven games for them.

Just under seven years ago it cost Dario G £500,000 to take him to Gresty Road after he had established himself at Shrewsbury for whom he had made his league debut after starting his career at Sheffield United.

The 6ft 2ins defender brings with him a memory of a Claret from the 1960s. He’s from Bedlington and the last player from there to wear the famous Claret & Blue was Brian O’Neil.

Walton is still under contract at Derby but has been told he is not part of the plans, and Steve Cotterill has confirmed that he will play against Dundee United.

Cyril Eboki Poh
Alongside him in training are two French players. Cyril Eboki Poh is a 24-year-old striker who has played for Sora, Bastia and Arthur’s first club Cannes. He is not a complete stranger to English football having spent time at Wolves in the 2000/01 season.

Lionel Djebi Zadi is a 22-year-old defender and plays his football in Switzerland for FC Lucerne having previously been with AS Minguettes.

There has been no indication from Steve Cotterill as to whether either or both of the French trialists will be involved against the SPL club on Saturday.

If they impress in training then there is every chance they could be involved provided we have received international clearance for them.

Meanwhile Michael Taylor, who as we reported has now left the club, has teamed up with Steve Cotterill's old club Cheltenham Town.

They are searching for a new defender since losing Michael Duff to the Clarets and manager John Ward is giving Taylor the opportunity to stake a claim for a permanent move to Whaddon Road.
