Trial for non-leaguer

The player in question is Farsley Celtic midfielder Amjad Iqbal and according to reports in his native Bradford he is all set to join the squad for pre-season training although at the moment that is as far as it goes.

Iqbal signed for Farsley Northern Counties East Premier Division side Thackley following his manager Martin Haresign and he says he owes much to the manager for having faith in him culminating in this opportunity.

The player had the chance to go to Doncaster a year ago but opted to remain part time at Farsley to allow him to complete his degree course in chemical engineering, he is now awaiting the result of his finals.

He is keen now to leave Farsley after his mentor Haresign was dismissed in a shock move last Friday and said about the possible move to the Turf,

"It is true that Burnley have had me watched at Farsley and have shown an interest in me but at this stage there is nothing more.

"There is no promise of anything from Burnley but they have invited me to the stadium to meet with the chairman and manager. It is very exciting and if I was to impress them and earn a contract then it would be perfect timing."
