Steve Bruce, I think it is fair to say, was not happy with the refereeing of Chris Foy nor the antics of some of the Chelsea players who were going down quicker than pins in a bowling alley. It got to the point that I thought I was watching Tom Daley again in the Olympics.
He watched as Foy yellow carded both Willian and Diego Costa for diving but also watched as he ignored a blatant dive by Gary Cahill after he'd already been fortunate to get away with an earlier yellow card that could so easily have been red.
Bruce is under some pressure. His team are next to bottom of the league and it appears he's managed to lose one of his players with Hatem Ben Arfa apparently now training on his own in France with Hull somewhat relieved they can terminate his loan agreement in January.
Next to bottom, but still three points clear of Leicester, a strange one given how good Nigel's team are and how much they've improved since they were promoted last season. So good are they that they've sacked Terry Robinson this week, the former Bury and Sheffield United chairman who was in charge of recruitment. Has he been a scapegoat as gentleman Nigel, who never has a wrong word for any other club, carries on?
QPR are the third team in the relegation positions. it's a point worth making because that means we aren't. They lost 3-1 at Everton last night; that's their 31st defeat in their last 40 Premier League games on the road. No wonder they don't travel in large numbers.
The two Manchester clubs are behind Chelsea at the top of the table. I watched the United v Liverpool game on Sunday. I bet it is years since there was such a poor game between those two clubs. United had David de Gea to thank for a stream of fine saves but they do seem to have developed the habit of playing badly and winning.
Are there problems in the Liverpool dressing room as reported? Mario Balotelli is in there. I'll say no more.
Arsenal and Spurs are now beginning to put pressure on Southampton who have dropped to fifth. I doubt they will be that high come the season's end. Much will depend on how many good days Arsenal have; they are an outstanding team on their day. As for Spurs, they've got the habit of scoring late winners. It's not a bad habit to have.
But those top clubs are a long way from us. They could finish the season for me right now with us in 17th place. I keep thinking what if we'd scored the pen at Palace or what if the effort that hit the woodwork against Man U had gone in. Either of those would see us move up a couple more players but I suppose every club has those what ifs to look back on.
We'll soon be having that list on Sky Sports News of all the teams who have been bottom at Christmas and how little chance they have of surviving. Unless there are some remarkable scores in two games this weekend, that team will be Leicester. How can such a fast improving side be down there?
