The list also confirmed that, of the top three nominated for the top prize, it was Ross McCormack of Leeds who was in second place behind Ings with Leicester's Danny Drinkwater taking third place.

The two other Burnley played named were Ings' strike partner Sam Vokes who was in sixth place with right-back Kieran Trippier taking eighth place.

The Football League said of Vokes: "He has been overshadowed by team mate Ings, but without Vokes' threat the Clarets wouldn't be as high as they are. Continuing to represent Wales, it's undoubtedly been the former Wolves' striker's best year."

Trippier was also praised by the league, of him they said: "The full-back is not only a solid defender but also has the energy to support Burnley's attacking moves. With the ability to whip in dangerous crosses, Trippier is a forceful weapon."

Leicester, too, had three players in the list with former Burnley loan player David Nugent and Jamie Vardy named.

Nottingham Forest, Ipswich and Derby provided the other three players with Andy Reid, Aaron Cresswell and Will Hughes respectively.

It's another fantastic achievement for three of our players in a season that is just getting better and better.
