Three Clarets in Team of the Week

Lee Briscoe - one of three Clarets in the Team of the Week
We were informed last Sunday that three Clarets had made it but didn't quite believe what we were told until it was confirmed to us by the Football League today.

Three players in the team is good going and it is obvious that the three must have come from Steve Davis, Kevin Ball, Ian Moore and David Johnson although it would certainly be unfair on the one left out.

Amazingly Johnno is the only one of the four to make the team and he finds himself alongside Dean West and Lee Briscoe. With no disrespect to Brisser he didn't have the best of games in midfield last week but has found himself in the team as one of the defenders.

Make of it all what you will but remember whoever selects this team found a place for Robert Prosinecki after his dreadful performance at the Turf back in November.

The full team this week is: Andy Dibble (Stockport County), Dean West (Burnley), Lee Briscoe (Burnley), Riccardo Scimeca (Nottingham Forest), Peter Hawkins (Wimbledon), Terry Cooke (Grimsby Town), Gareth Ainsworth (Preston North End), Ali Benarbia (Manchester City), Michael Keane (Preston North End), David Johnson (Burnley), Darren Huckerby (Manchester City).

There was an ex-Claret in the 3rd Division team in Paul Smith now at Hartlepool United. Smudger has been a revelation up in the North East and provided the final pass for both goals in their win at relegated Halifax last week.
