Thompson may only miss two games

It was confirmed on Saturday that Thompson had suffered ligament damage and that he could be out for some time but the news today is better after the results of the scan were received.

Thompson has suffered ankle ligament damage but has not broken his ankle as was initially feared, and the damage is not quite so bad. Manager Owen Coyle said: "Steven's scans came back ok, there is no break, but there is some ankle ligament damage.

"We don't think it is that bad, but we'll have to wait and see how it settles over the week. He will definitely miss the next two games."

That rules Thompson out of this week's away games against Ipswich and Plymouth but with the international break to follow he could be set to return for the third of our run of away games at Derby in just under three weeks time.
