There's a Bratt at the Turf tonight

Last updated : 30 September 2008 By Tony Scholes
West Midlands referee Steve Bratt refereed our home draw against Colchester in February and had something of a difficult afternoon, never at any stage getting to grips with Colchester's niggly ways.

His performance saw him receive a 'Rate the Ref' rating of 36.46 and he's currently fourth bottom of the table with only Trevor Kettle, Dean Whitestone and the aforementioned Mason below him (Mason's rating does not include Saturday's game).

He's now in his third season on the Football League list. Last season he just got into three figures with yellow cards, totalling 106 in 33 games, but in those games the only player he sent off was Neal Trotman, then with Oldham, in an FA Cup win at Doncaster.

This season he's already surpassed that red card count with two in his first three games of the season. The first of those was Brentford's Marcus Bean in their 2-0 Carling Cup defeat at Swansea. Four days later he sent off Ian Hume of Barnsley as they went down 2-1 at home to Coventry.

He was in the north west on Saturday for the Bury v Wycombe game and that was his eighth game of the season. Besides those two red cards he's handed out 22 yellow cards. Six of those have gone to home team players with sixteen to away team players.

Mason gave us very much a better performance second time round, we can now hope that Bratt does likewise.

He will be assisted by Steven Cummins (Cheshire) and Kevin Mattocks (Lancashire) with fourth official duties in the hands of Gary Hilton (Lancashire).
