There was another Claret in the FA Cup

We have now been informed that there was a Claret (not an ex-Claret) playing in the 1st round and in fact in the very match we highlighted as the biggest achievement of all, Harrogate Railway’s victory at Slough.

Harrogate Railway have in fact become the first side from the North East Counties League ever to reach the 2nd round of the FA Cup and have had to win six ties to get there.

Not only that but one of their players, Matthew Flynn, is a member of a family of Burnley supporters and is indeed a Clarets’ fan himself as are his Uncle John and his dad Brian (who is not the manager of Swansea).

Matthew played the first fifty minutes of Saturday’s historic win before an injury forced him off but he will be hoping to have recovered in time to play in the record creating 2nd round tie against Bristol City wherever it is played.

Congratulations Matthew from Clarets Mad and best of luck in the next round.
