The Wall of Legends

Last updated : 02 September 2003 By Tony Scholes

Some great players have worn the famous Claret & Blue over the years. From Halley, Boyle and Watson in the years before and after the First World War, to Attwell, Brown and Bray immediately after the Second World War, and then to Adamson, McIlroy and Pointer from the great team of the late fifties and sixties. But there have been so many more, so many wonderful players of whom we can be so proud.

And now for the first time you can vote for those who you think should be honoured in the new Wall of Legends at Turf Moor which is to be built outside the ground between the two new stands The Jimmy McIlroy Stand and The Harry Potts Longside.

The club have already received a large number of votes but now you can choose to vote online by visiting the Wall of Legends Web Site but more than that you can also have your name alongside the greats by buying your own brick(s) in the wall.

One group of supporters have already made a superb gesture and the Burnley Football Supporters’ Club last night voted to donate £500 towards the marble centre stone that will carry the names of the top ten selected players.

The Wall of Legends is being run in association with East Lancashire Newspapers (Burnley Express) and with our local commercial radio station 2BR and Clarets Mad are delighted to have the opportunity to support the Club, the local paper and the local radio station.

To vote for your top ten or to buy a brick and be part of the Wall of Legends then please visit the web site at www.thewalloflegends.com
