The other Beast joins Alfreton

To Burnley fans there was just one Beast. That was Brian Jensen who, after spending most of last season with Bury, has recently signed for Crawley for next season.

The other Beast was Jon Stewart, a goalkeeper brought in by Eddie Howe after he'd seen his contract cancelled at Bournemouth. In two years at Turf Moor he was unable to establish himself. He didn't play a first team game but was on the bench for a long period during his first season after an injury sustained by Jensen at Peterborough.

During those two seasons he also enjoyed two loan spells in the Conference with Alfreton, where he won the Beast nickname, and I didn't think it would be a surprise to see him go back there last season on a permanent basis.

It didn't happen and he eventually signed for Worksop, but Alfreton kept tabs on him and today have confirmed that he's signed for them on a one year deal.

Manager Nicky Law, the former Chesterfield and Bradford City boss, said of the goalkeeper who has previously kept seven clean sheets in 27 league games for Alfreton: "We are really pleased to have Jon back. He was one I thought about last year and we have been keen on him for some time.

"When he first came to us he did a fantastic job for the club. Unfortunately, the second time wasn't quite as good as Jon was in something of a bad place as he didn't know where his future lay (with Burnley).

"After being released by Burnley, he went to Worksop Town last season where he was excellent. We had him watched quite a few times and I am absolutely delighted that he has agreed to join us again.

"Jon fits very well into the category of player we are looking to recruit this season. He is very enthusiastic, of the right age, has plenty to prove, and most of all will fit into a good changing room which we are trying to create."
