The morning after

All our hopes disappeared despite our winning and I had thought all week that a 1-0 win would be good enough, I never thought that everyone else would win. Every game has gone through my head with every missed chance and goal conceded closely scrutinised.

The Gareth Taylor goal that was ridiculously disallowed at Preston didn't seem important at the time, it was in the last minute and the game was won. And what about City's fifth from Huckerby, did 5-1 seem any worse than 4-1 on that miserable day in December? That's how difficult it is to take, one damn goal too little scored or one too many conceded.

I spoke to someone last night who has no interest in football at all and was told, "Never mind, it is only a game." Some people just don't understand. I have always wanted to see my club play in the top division again. For years it was an impossible dream but no longer and I really want it. Our chance has gone for another year but let's hope it is only for a year.

I would though like to thank everyone who backed our ‘Wear your colours with pride' campaign, it was good seeing so many shirts yesterday, particularly some of the older ones that we very rarely see.

Thanks to all the web sites and newspapers who publicised it for us and to each and every Claret who wore their colours with pride yesterday whether at the Turf or not. In a brief discussion with chairman Barry Kilby before the match he gave it his full backing.

It is a longer than usual break this summer, our next league game is still almost sixteen weeks away. We will start next season on 10th August. I'm sure by then we will have all just about got over yesterday and will be ready to get behind the lads for a new assault on promotion.

It all went wrong in the end yesterday but Andy Robinson summed it up in his report, no matter what happens I will always be

Proud to be a Claret
